We have a range of innovative programs to serve a variety of students. We’re really excited about our new & returning programs for 2017, and we know that our students will continue to grow & develop their music skills as we challenge, inspire and encourage them.

Our group programs are offered at a variety of times, and are divided according to school years. Some programs are offered weekly during school terms, while some are delivered in a monthly workshop format to accommodate busy students.

With the exception of EnsembleReady classes, which are designed to be big groups, we aim to keep class sizes at a maximum of 10 students (approx).

Singing Programs (school-aged students)

EnsembleReady (weekly)

A high-quality ensemble with a focus on contemporary popular repertoire, this class is for anyone who wants the wonderful experience of singing with multiple voices and creating rich harmonies.

You will also grow in your own vocal and musical abilities as you learn interesting and varied repertoire. EnsembleReady is also a great option for those who love to sing but who are not quite confident to perform solos.

This group is so much more than your average choir!

ArtistReady (weekly)

Our ArtistReady program gives students the opportunity to discover who they are as an artist, and to find their own voice and style. We want you to be YOU in all your incredible uniqueness, not a clone of a top-40 singer!

You’ll have the chance to refine your performance skills through regular in-class solos, to develop your songwriting skills, and you will strengthen your technical/musicianship skills. You’ll also work with your classmates to create engaging group performances.

For maximum benefit, students taking ArtistReady should be comfortable singing solos in front of their supportive & encouraging class.

StageReady (weekly)

Our StageReady program gives Musical Theatre fans the opportunity to learn more about the world of Musical Theatre – the evolution of the musical, the theatre industry, audition techniques & preparation, and, most importantly, students will have the opportunity to create their own showstoppers from their favourite shows to present in our Musical Theatre concert.

Private Singing Lessons (weekly/fortnightly)

The individual attention of a teacher gives students the opportunity to work at an in-depth level.

You will work on your technique, and you can work with your teacher to create & learn a repertoire list that is tailored to your strengths and preferences.

You can also work on music theory at a more detailed level, and you can prepare for specific events such as performances and auditions.

ExamReady (monthly workshops during school terms)

Divided according to exam grade, this is an opportunity for students wishing to complete AMEB Musical Theatre grades to learn their technical work, vocalise, aural tests, sight reading, general knowledge, and to choose, learn and perform their exam songs. Workshops are held monthly and students should attend all workshops wherever possible.

TheoryReady (monthly workshops during school terms)

Theory is such an important foundation for music students, and these workshops offer in-depth teaching of theory concepts that will also enable students to sit for external music theory examinations. Students will gain the music literacy skills they need to communicate with other musicians, read and understand sheet music, and write their own songs.

GigReady (monthly workshops during school terms)

An application-only program for our advanced senior high school students, GigReady equips students for the music industry and helps them to create a project of their choosing, teaching them valuable business, networking & entrepreneurial skills along the way. This is a key program for students seeking a career in not just music, but any creative industry.

Piano & Guitar Programs (school-aged students)

Private Piano Lessons (weekly/fortnightly)

At SVA we have a focus on contemporary piano. As well as learning how to read and play from notated music, after reaching a suitable stage in your method book, you will have the opportunity to learn to play as a contemporary pianist does – using a lead sheet and creating your own part. This allows you to play contemporary pop/rock/jazz/worship music, and allows singers to learn to self-accompany on the piano.

You will also develop a solid foundation in correct piano technique, as well as reading music and music theory. We can also offer you a more traditional approach to lessons, with some of our students choosing to complete AMEB classical piano grades alongside their contemporary studies.

GuitarReady (weekly)

The guitar is a very useful instrument – it is portable, suitable for multiple genres, can be used in a band or solo, and can be used for songwriting.

GuitarReady classes allow you to learn in a group situation and develop a strong foundation on the guitar before moving on to private lessons.

Private Guitar Lessons (weekly/fortnightly)

The guitar is a versatile & portable instrument, and is a great option for singers who would like to self-accompany. It’s also a valuable standalone instrument, as proficiency on the guitar provides musicians with the opportunity to play in bands and to spend a rainy weekend jamming along with old favourites!

Our focus is on contemporary guitar, and we tailor private lessons to the needs of the individual.

Flexible Options To Suit Your Needs

We understand that all students are unique and different families have different time and budgetary constraints. We aim to be as flexible as possible while still providing high quality tuition.

Ideally, school-aged students should attend classes or lessons weekly. We find that students who only connect with a teacher fortnightly can lose their way in between lessons, and illness can mean students go a month between lessons. We strongly recommend a weekly group class over fortnightly private lessons (for a similar cost). If you are taking a weekly group class, fortnightly private lessons in addition to the group class work very well.

Some students who learn two instruments with us take alternate fortnightly lessons on each instrument, which makes lessons more affordable than two weekly private lessons. We allow two siblings to share a private lesson, which is also a more economical option for families.

Some of our adult students prefer to take fortnightly 60 minute lessons, while others with changing work schedules book in week by week where there are available spaces.
